I know there’s been topics on this before but just thought I’d open another one to see if anyone ever got to the bottom of this issue of the revs sustaining being gear changes?  Anyone found a fix?

Got a 64 plate diesel TSE.  Bluetooth was working fine, nothing has been done as far as a can tell but it’s now not working.

My wife’s phone was in the list of paired phones and that used to connect automatically when she was in the car. Now she can connect it manually but then the connection drops out mid call.

tried connecting my phone and whilst my phone can see the decide “MG 6 CAR KIT”, it’s just thinks about it for ages then says unable to connect.

    any ideas?  Thanks

I’ve got an MG 6 and the horn is appalling. To a point where I’m surprised it’s allowed and considered ok for an MOT. If a lorry started drifting into my lane on a motorway there’s not a chance the driver would hear my horn.  I asked my MG dealer when it was in once and they said there’s nothing they can do about it, that’s how MG have designed it.

  • Thanks for putting this honest review on. It’s nice to have some feedback from someone who has actually owned and lived with a car rather than just some of the rubbish motoring journalists go on about such as scratchy plastics and how many water bottles you can fit in the glove box.

i guess you were maybe unlucky with some of the maintenance costs and the DAB radio bits weren’t absolutely essential? As in the FM still worked or aux/usb in and the car still ran.

I do do really like the way the new MG 3 looks from the front and the 7 year warranty now makes a serious contender when I choose my next car.

I’d say mine is doing it rarely now. Gone from over 50% of the time to only rarely to a point that I could live with it.

My thoughts are if it was injectors then surely it wouldn’t just stop doing it? Also surely with the injectors being such a major component of the fuel system if there was any fault it would show an engine management light?

I’m thinking dirt in the fuel system? DPF maybe and something to do with the regeneration process?

So before I got my MG 6 1.9 diesel I had a 2.4 twin turbo Volvo V50 estate.

So the Volvo was a 2008 but the engine would be older than that, twin turbo, no stop start, no eco features, and a relatively heavy estate car. Average MPG was 44.5 on varying roads and day to day journeys going up to a maximum of 58mpg on a long steady motorway run.

So when I bought my 6 years newer MG6 a year ago, with a smaller 1.9 engine, stop start, newer and designed at a time when economy is a big deal, my average mpg on exactly the same journeys is 43! Which is lower than the “big thirsty” Volvo. The only time my newer and “more economical” MG actually beats the Volvo is on a long motorway run where I got it up to about 65mpg.

So, how did MG motor actually manage make this engine and car so bad (speaking purely on economy here not generally bad)? MG motor I hope you read this forum...

Part of me is a bit wary of going straight to the dealer on this, because last time there was an issue there was actually an engine management light on. Took it in, got charged £112 for the privilege of it being plugged in, codes cleared and told there is nothing wrong and see how it goes. The next day engine management light back on, took it back no problem, no further charge, they couldnt find anything again but said given what the error codes say it could need a new fuel and air filter putting in and as it was booked for its service 2 weeks later they just did the service then. All done, they phoned up and said a new code had come on that day and they’ve now found the problem but a part needs ordering. Car was left with them a week while the part came (we had courtesy car). Week later phoned up to say it’s sorted. Went to collect, got to the roundabout a quarter of a mile from the dealer and engine management light is back on. Went straight back, left it with them and took another courtesy car, phoned the next day to say it’s sorted they just hadn’t updated the software. It’s been fine since. But that was 3 trips to the dealer, without our own car for over a week (we had a gas guzzling petrol automatic Nissan Juke which was AWFUL on fuel economy).

My point being, with that fault there was an engine management light on and they had something to go off and it still took all that time and and all that hassle to fix. With this there are no errors, just an intermittent fault.
