  • Newbie here with MG6 TSE TDI in mind
    Hi Mike
you would be making an excellent decision I have now had my MG6 TSE Magnette (Petrol) for two and a half years (first MOT in September coming) I have done 35K trouble free miles. Only bill so far (apart from normal servicing has been replacement front discs and pads). I have just replaced the rear tyres which did 34000 Miles (I swapped front and rear diagonally at 16K miles the fronts were replaced at 26K miles. The car is a superb drive and handling is exceptional. My only Gripe is the plastic key top I am just about to purchase my 7th as the key ring loop keeps braking. (These tops cost £2.50 from Brown and Gammon). Also I choose the Champagne Gold colour which is lovely but rare as rocking horse shit consequently I cannot buy a touch up paint that matches.( I have a couple of small stone chips in the plastic bumper at the rear).

Hi David I have an MG Magnette TSE from New.

I had this problem a few times in the first 1K miles from new I then had the updated firmware fitted and not had the problem since in 17K miles. If the car has had the firmware update perhaps the upgrade didn't install properly? Worth checking if it has the latest firmware and if it has get them to reinstall it in case there are issues remaining.

  • Magnette TSE 1st day problems
My Magnette TSE (Champagne Gold) was purchased new 15 month ago I have at various times had warning lights come on particularly when the car was brand new. Restarting the Engine which in effect resets the on-board computer usually cleared these. The only one that was a bit more frequent was the famous coolant level warning. This was cured under warranty with the replacement reservoir bottle and level sensor.

Now I have covered 17K miles the warning symbols have become eerily quiet with nothing to report in the last 15K miles. If the fault indicated remains after a couple of further runs then you will need to consult the dealer. But if it goes away on restart then just ignore it. With my lifetime experience of computers the code will often find a glitch just like the erratic reversing Camera which seems to have a mind of it's own.

I have not regretted my purchase in that time and my dealer (Perkins of Rayne) has been fantastic.

  • MG6 1.8T GT SE
This seems to be quite an isolated problem I had a bit of this on mine when it was very new (first 1K Miles) and before it had the throttle remap fitted. I have not experienced it since and I have now done 17K Miles from new. I have the original Gear Knob which was tightened at the first service it all seems to work fine to me.

I would say that I am currently running a few full tanks (I am on my third) with BP Ultimate and it is running better with improved smoothness through the gears than with my usual Morrison's standard unleaded (10 to 15% Bio I believe).

Did anyone in the East Anglia region see Stuart White from BBC East in Shanghai this week. If so did they notice the MG Magnette parked behind him in the City centre? Also Noticed that nearly all the Cars (like my Magnette) on the road have Sunroofs!!

Also I think I saw a silver MG6 Hatchback in Kelvedon on Saturday 16th Nov at around 9 am if it was you let me know.

  • MAGNETTE TSE GT TURBO
The Magnette is a lot more comfortable than the Mini particularly if you are 6ft like me.
Also apart from the room inside I can't believe how much space there is in the boot. I have now driven 16K trouble free miles and I have no complaints all minor issues have been sorted under Warranty and the original tyres are wearing extremely well. My average MPG is around 33 miles per Gallon but 90% of my Journeys are 6 miles or less. If you commute 20 Miles a day return I reckon you can achieve over 40 MPG.

  • Using the USB for audio
My own experience is that the sound is as good as any I have experienced in a car and I can't tell the difference between the MP3,Radio or Aux come to that. As an Audio Engineer in the 1970's who used to work for Bruel & Kjaer in Denmark. I can assure you that road wind and general external noise will destroy any sense of true HiFi in a car. This is something we were doing a lot of research into during the 1970's as in-car audio started to take off. If you are stationary or parked that may not be the case but then my in-car audio experience needs only to be suitable for the inside of a moving vehicle.

  • TSE Reversing Camera
Mine will normally show straight away however. I have a USB Memory stick loaded with music plus I use a Bluetooth phone. I am convinced that some times either the Blue tooth or the Music fails to load properly under certain circumstance. (For example if I forget to take my phone with me it tries to find the phone). This slows down the time the on-board computer takes to get ready and seems to affect what is displayed on the on-board monitor. I have seen similar things on BMW's and Porches so we are not alone in this respect.

  • Window seals
In my case I noticed the window seal was not and would not fit properly leaving the metal weld line exposed on the inside every time I pushed the seal back on it quickly came away. It didn't let any water in and there wasn't any noticeable noise resulting. But as the car is under warranty I pointed out to the dealer that it didn't fit properly and it was replaced. I suspect there is a new version of the seal as if it was a matter of sticking it in place this would have been the solution. You have to remember there are 100's of thousands of these cars on the road in China and they will soon find a faulty component.

  • Experiences with other tyres
I have just passed 14K miles in my Magnette TSE and have between 5mm on front and 4mm on back (I swapped tyres diagonally at 12k miles) I would expect to get 25-30K miles from my tyres and seem to be on target for this. I notice that you can get replacement Dunlops as originally fitted for £143 each also non branded ones for £73 fitted. These are available from Tyre Shopper although I suspect other national chains have similar prices for 225/45 R18 91W.
