  • Thanks for the response.

Turns out it was a faulty key dock. A common problem apparently.

I took my old one apart and it’s a really basic circuit. It tested OK so think it was the worn plastic housing that was at fault, and no longer making contact with the tactile switches.

Which model are you going for?

I think I might go for the single screen option.

Let me know how you get on

    Afternoon all,

    Hope you are well.

I am having some starting issues with my MG6 1.8 SE. I have read all other posts around the common issues, and the one that keeps coming back is the corroded terminal to the starter solenoid.

Anyway, it all started a few months back, and after reading here I gave the little spade connector a little wiggle and hey presto. As such, I quickly set to clean off the corrosion as best I could, and then gave it some grease to protect it. All was well until recently and has got progressively worse, to the point where a wiggle no longer works. So, I have a few questions that relate to my current diagnosis:

    1. There is a click from the engine bay when I try to start the car, and have been reading on other forums about a 'K Series Click' which is apparently a common issue, however found no relation to the MG6. Does the MG6 suffer the same fate, and will it require a new additional relay adding in?

    2. I tried a separate key, based on the fact that the starting issue wasn't related to a particular time, temp, etc. First few times it fired up fine, and I thought I had found the issue. However, was just a coincidence, and replacement key / battery makes no difference.

    3. The cleaning of the connectors is not ideal, due to the short cable and awkwardness of reaching down the back of the engine. So my plan this weekend is to completely strip it down from the underside, remove the starter to thoroughly and clean the spade connector on the solenoid, but I am having difficulty cleaning the female connector. Is the female connector the culprit? If so, I might snip and replace it, and add a small length of wire too so its easier to work on.

I have tried to join a MG6 Owners Club Facebook group as I know they are more active than forums, however my request just remains as pending (its a closed group) so will hope to post on there too at some point.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

    Kind Regards,

    Paul

I was thinking of this also.

I quite like the single screen version as it looks more stock, and assume you navigate through the menu's via the scroll wheel (similar to what we do now).

Might have to be a case of having to bite the bullet and order it, although its an expensive gamble.

The owners of the existing systems seem to be pretty happy (based on this and other forums) so I cant really see the android one being mush worse?

Hopefully someone with experience will wade in at some point.

    Afternoon all,

After reading through almost every thread around MG6 roof bars, I just want to confirm that the Rover 75 / MG ZT Saloon bars will fit (there or there about?)

I understand some modding may be required to protect roof / paintwork etc., but just want to be clear first before I order as I don't want to go down the 'universal' route if I can help it!

    Cheers,

    1 week on,...
    Many thanks.

Car is going in for some warranty work (heated rear screen) so as soon as its back I'm going to start installing the puddle lights, and the parrot kit and then go from there.

Is the stereo a standard ISO connection? Don't want to modify any of the cars wiring if I can help it, so need a schematic if someone has one? Need to find the 'mute' wire most importantly.

    Cheers.

    1 week on,...
    Thanks,

I wire them into the interior light then without any worry! Also, I have a piggyback fuse somewhere which I can use to wire in my new dash cam, thanks for the confirmation.

My electronic abilities wont stretch to creating an auto relay for the folding mirrors via the key, so hopefully there is someone who can help!

As for the Parrot Kit, can anyone confirm the connection's at the back of the stereo, are they the standard 8 pin ISO? I also need to hunt down a schematic / wiring diagram for the stereo and hopefully I should then be able to decipher it vs. the parrot kit, and then share it with you all.

    Cheers,

    Paul

    Evening all,

So one week on after collecting the car and I'm well chuffed.

Got used to the driving characteristics now, however I'm going to disconnect the battery overnight soon to reset the ecu so it's learns my driving style.

Got a couple of questions about future upgrades:

    - Parrot SOT Lead: saw a post on here by delboy who said he got the lead to work (Vauxhall I think) without modifying the 6 wiring. Anyone here done it and can advise me?

    - Puddle lights: My old Mondeo MK3 has puddle lights added (aftermarket) that consisted of high quality SMD LED adhesive strip that was stuck the the bottom of the door, and came on when the door was opened,...hey presto 4 budget aftermarket puddle lights!! My question is that the mondeo wasn't can-bus, so I could easily tap into the door wiring. I assume this won't be the same with the 6 as it would throw a bulb fault? Any ideas?

    - Dash cam: looking at migrating my dash cam into the car, can I tap from an unused ignition live from the fuse box? Anyone else done similar?

    - Folding Mirrors: On the MK3 someone built a simple relay that allowed the mirrors to be closed / opened when the car was locked / unlocked. After having a poke around the 6, I doubt this would be possible as assume it needs constant power to the mirrors which it doesn't have once the key is removed. Anyone already had a pop at this or have any ideas?

    Apologies for the long post.

    Again, LOVE my new car!!

    Cheers,

    Looking to buy!
    Evening all,

Well a little update, I bought it!

Picking it up a week on Wednesday, and I was very impressed with the car. However I was a little underwhelmed wth the 'foot down' performance on the motorway but I think that has got more to do with the fact that I am coming from a torque-y diesel.

I cannot believe the press slated it so much, I though the interior felt very well put together and the quality was well above what I was expecting for the money. The styling is fantastic too, might look to upgrade to the TSE wheels though, but very proud to say I an am MG6 owner.

So one thing that was putting me off is that it was an AVIS car previously, but in the last 5 years it has done 33k miles (but looks like showroom condition) and it has good history so seems that it has been well looked after. After a bit of haggling and getting them to do some extra work for me, we agreed a deal and am well chuffed.

One thing I would like some advice on though is its due its 5 year service which includes the cambelt, but looking on here there have been similar posts about cars with similar mileage and the recommendation is to just change the belt, is that the general consensus still, or have there been horror stories of the tensioner / roller going?

All in all, well pleased with my new purchase. Glad to join the club B)

    Cheers,

    Paul

    Evening all,

    Hope you're all well.

Currently have an ageing 200k MK3 mondeo which won't pass its next MOT (owes me absolutely 0). Car has been solid as a rock, but I can't seem to stay with the Ford brand due to the looks, styling, patriotic nature (not entirely i know) and sheer value for money of the MG6!!

So been looking around the forums, and yes there seems to be the odd niggle, but people told me I would be up to my arse in injectors for the MK3, but just wasn't the case, and for that reason I take certain things with a pinch of salt.

I'm going to look at a 6 at the weekend, which currently stands on a 62 plate, 35k miles in the form of the 1.8T.

I wondered if there is anything particular I should be looking out for besides the normal checks?

If it's half as good as it sounds, I think I'll be walking / driving away having purchased a new car but not going to let my heart rule my head. I am impressed with the how to's on here, and will plan to do subtle mods such as the felt glove box, as well as preventative maintenant such as removing he sounder from behind the bumper and applying a bead of silicone.

Thanks in advance for your help / advice.
