Just to say yes it has full dealer service history.

We have a resolution I can't really go into too much detail, suffice to say the gearbox is getting rebuilt and a new clutch in it when it goes back together.
At a very reasonable cost, I will add.

So fingers crossed it should be good for a while yet as it's had a lot of money spent on it having expensive fixes done, when I do get shot of it I think someone will be getting a bargain car.

    Well it's not good news.
Needs a replacement gearbox and clutch at least to put it right. The clutch arm bolts have sheared off, play in the shaft and a slight oil leak from the phone conversation I've had with the dealer.

  • simcor replied to the topic gearbox whine? in Technical - MG3
Is a facelift new 3 or the previous gen 3 on a 67 plate, I assume it's the previous gen car like mine.

I find the gearbox a bit whiney at low speeds if I am honest more than I have noticed on any other cars.
Some gearboxes exhibit a little whine sometimes and usually it's nothing to worry about. But wouldn't hurt to get it checked over.

  • I did try sending a PM but when entering the username is comes up blank and won't send. Unless I'm doing something wrong maybe being on the phone is the issue I'm having.

  • The engine bay fuse box would be the first port of call by MG for electrical issues like that, then followed by the BCM.

The BCM does control how many of the electrical items operate that is beyond doubt.

However as I say if you took it in to the garage the fuse box would be the first thing they would change.
I would rather explain more in private but it doesn't seem that we can  send PM's on here.

    Broke down on Saturday again.
Started OK first thing then about half and hour later wouldn't start, was as though it had a flat battery.
However its not turning over, in gear you can only rock it so the engine isn't turning over.

It has made an odd noise a couple of times over the last couple of weeks, but been reluctant to take it to garage as unless they hear it doing it, it's hard to diagnose as always.

Something is stopping it turning over which I'm hoping is a fault with the replacement starter motor that was fitted that is locking the flywheel.

Otherwise it can only be a flywheel/clutch problem or engine seized problem.

So it's back at the garage again.
