    **WARNING**

My wife fitted chrome valve caps to her MG3 which has Tyre Pressure Monitoring System valves. At the second service the garage noted they couldn't remove the caps to check the pressure. The reason given was corrosion between the aluminium? valve stem and the chromed brass? cap.

Although the garage offered to cut them off [at expense and risk of damaging the valve], I decided to try to remove them myself. After applying Plus Gas and leaving to soak, I managed to remove one cap but ended shearing off the second one. With only one spare, I decided to return the car to the garage to replace the sheared valve and the remaining two with chrome caps.

The outcome was an expensive bill for the supply and fitting of 3 new valves and "reprograaming" the valves to the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System.

    Afternoon all
Does anybody know where I can purchase coil springs for a 15 placlte MG6, at a reasonable cost?

Just been quoted 450 parts only for a full set, which seems excessive (though I can't find 'generic' springs anywhere)

    Cheers

  • Hi ll, I know this is quite an old thread. I'm looking to fit an aftermarket head unit in my 6. I have looked at the attached PDF but can't figure it out. Is anyone able to help? I have the attached image and have worked out that the right hand side (I think) is the speakers and the part I have marked off in red deals with power. I'm jst not sure which pins do what.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi All and to those that remember me lol
still got the Magnette almost 8 years on from new. It’s been a great car, I moved on to another daily and gave the Magnette to the Mrs. It’s been mechanically fault free, I’ve had to replace wiper motor after it got wet due to blocked  scuttle drains. I’ve recently replaced ABS sensors due to false activation and the usual failure message pop ups. One of the front window winder motor cables snapped so r  replaced that. Also the multi function select switch in the dash went faulty so just replaced that too. £19 delivered! Bodywork still unblemished, just needs a good polish. Here it is outside right now, 42k miles and drives really well

  • I did manage to get in the car in the end, tbh I have had to do it 3 times overall, even after replacing the lock each time... the 4th time was done by the garage doing its MOT as it packed in after I dropped it off.

No easy way about it, I'd try using the emergency key while pressing the unlock button a few times and hopefully it will unlock, once you do unlock it, make sure you remove the screw behind the door card at the side (behind a big plastic circle, you'll see once the door is open) and keep it removed, makes it easier in the future if it happens again. You'll need to get a replacement lock ready as well and remove the door card and then remove the lock mechanism and replace with the new one.... It's a very awkward job.... Even more so of you can't actually open the door, as gett2the door card off from inside is a nightmare, and you'll likely have to snap some parts on the door card to get it off.

Alternatively source the parts and see if a garage will change the lock, should be an hours job max for a garage to do, hour and a half at most.

Had many issues with my car but I ended up fixing it all up and selling it as stopped using it during lockdown sk had no need for it anymore.

Good luck with it and if you need more advice there's a great group 9n Facebook of MG 6 owners who have advice and previous posts there on how to fix any issues that crop up, the group is the MG 6 owners club I think, if you search that you should find the group.
