  • Hi Maestroman. Thanks for the suggestions, and yes I think the 2 problems are unrelated, as the reluctance to rev freely started immediately after the coolant loss, but the misfire started only a few weeks ago. The car has a full MG Motor Dealer history so the fuel filter should have been changed at the regular service intervals. I have certainly paid for the filters! Surely a blocked filter would be blocked all the time and not just when the engine has come up to temperature? Plugs and HT leads were changed about 10 months ago, at the 90,000 mile service.

  • Unlikley, but always possible the two issues are unrelated.
I have no great ideas, but do you know how old the fuel filter is? In my experiance, it is not replaced very often, despite what any serivce history might suggest! HT leads also comes to mind.

  • An update on this problem!
I have now had the car connected to the MG Motor Diagnostic system at two different dealers and it doesn't show any faults. Would I be right in assuming that all the sensors are therefore working correctly and within parameter limits when cold and when hot?
To add to the reluctance to rev, which is now closer to 4000rpm than 4,500rpm, it has started to slightly misfire around the maximum torque point of 2,500rpm. the second diagnostic session was after the misfire started and there are no errors showing up even for that. I've tried some doses of Forte fuel system cleaner, and at the same time running it on super-unleaded fuel but there has been no change.
The temperature gauge shows a normal reading, and it is not losing coolant or using oil. Fuel consumption is slightly down by a couple of mpg.
I am getting desperate as I seem to be running out of diagnostic options, so does anyone here have any ideas as to the cause of the poor running?
    Pete

  • MGMatt123 created a new forum post in Technical - MG6
    Hi all,

Getting a bit confused with the brakes on my 2015 MG TL.
Had the front brake pads and discs changed earlier in the year with no issues, mg part numbers used were 30022511 (discs) and 10086234 (pads). Please can someone confirm these were the correct parts used.

MG garage have now said the pads could do with changing on the rear but discs are fine. My local garage say I need part number SFP90005A but another garage I have spoken to said my car is the MK11 (he asked if I had an electronic handbrake which I have) so I need part 10084008 and that there are no alternatives or aftermarket available. Can anyone bring some clarification to this, any help would be really appreciated.
    Cheers.

  • Hi, this Forum is almost dead now, everything having moved to Facebook. You might get a better response there.

I am not an expert on the 3 (having a 6), but early clutch failure is not uncommon. No manufacture is keen to replace clutches in or out of warranty, due to the how it is used factor. I would ask again on Facebook and you should get some more helpful replies. I don't hold out much hope of MG being helpful!

  • Thats not so good Redzpete

    T
his was why i fitted filter myself in the end, as having to pay the garage to fit it and then finding out it was the wrong filter proved to be a sore one on my pocket. Fitting was easy enough just a pain taking out the battery and the ECU. I've done more research into filters that may fit and i believe filters for a
KIA SPORTAGE SL 2.0D should fit as it has a larger thread on the bottom for the sensor. They are about £12 for a new one. Im sorted just now as I bought an original from MG. But I'll definetly  have a look at one when I have to replace it in the future.

    Hope you get sorted soon?

    Cheers

    Brian
