Hiya to all

i want to wire in my dashcam.

is a “wired” type - initially I went for the interior lamp - - was going to come of the input the the interior light switch supply - however this has no-directional voltage wether the car is on or off.

any suggestions???

How about using a piggy back fuse in the circuit which powers the "cigarette lighter" 12v socket

I was hoping that the run of wire wouldn’t have to go from the centre console up across and around the window

In Australia, they recommend getting an electrician to wire in  the reversing camera section of a rear dash cam. My MG3 already had a reversing camera, so I didn't use that part .I got a uniden front and rear dashcam from Aldi's. But I know in the UK you do your own wiring of plugs and light fittings. I think you need an electrician. However, in Australia it gets so hot the rear adhesive keeps melting and the camera falls off in the heat. Every day I have to reapply it.

Try pushing the end of the cable into the cigarette lighter.,then the rest of the wires are pushed into the black rubber trim. Google it. I had trouble with a rear dash cam. I put a paper clip into each of the holes and shoved it into the rear light casing. It doesn't come off now, in the extreme heat of Queensland. It can get to 39 degrees Celsius and no adhesive will hold it.
